I started out as a live sound tech, and in 1994 I built my first studio — it eventually got a name: Padded Cell. If that sounds familiar, that's not an accident. The 2013 record is named after it.

I've been behind the board ever since — producing records, running live sound, engineering sessions, for other people, for three decades. I have cerebral palsy, and I can't physically play an instrument, which has always been a strange kind of gutting, because the music never stopped. I just had no way to get it out.

That changed around 2000, working with a band called Flat Atom. A couple of them had worked at Sony Creative Software helping build Sony Acid, and once I understood what that software could actually do, everything clicked — I could build music out of samples and MIDI instead of playing it live. That's the moment gimp kore started.

Seven albums later, it's still the same idea: music made the only way I've ever been able to make it.
